Hey guys,
what you think of the new layout last Friday night. Tom did the hard work. He's da man!
The track was tricky and different. A nice change. It did catch me out a lot of the times. And I did like the hairpin at the start but probably needs to be a little wider (3 metres).
If we all like it, maybe we can keep the design for a while.

yeh agreed a/c
great design and credit to tom for putting in the effort.
a little wider would be great and clean up the sharpe edges on the barriers would be cool aswell. " broke my front end twice in the same spot" lol but yeh its challenging and keeps you thinking

Yeah, maybe we might have to put sand bag hose around the areas prone to damages. Yep make it wider too.
Does anyone have any ideas as to how we can fix the transponder bridge? It's flimsy. Ian originally made it to be portable but now since we have a permanent track, we can make the bridge more sturdy. Any thoughts?

I think it would be better to build a new one that can cope with a bit of abuse than try and fix the one we have now. Make it about 4 metres wide using bigger sections of wood than current and better hinges to try and avoid the need for the reinforcing bars.

A simple way to fix that particular problem is to use AGGY LINE, it is fairly plyable & can easyly cut in half to match the existing barricades. In my opinion this addition would be a valuable asset to the club & {therefore RACERS} as it will create faster turns & much more readerable & driveable race lines. The surface is GREAT, as far as flatness goes & speed is easy to find,But if only it could be made to have a few more FLAT out flowwing sections & a little more space be used it could be AWESOME.....

THANKS ADAM..

Here is the track I come up with at the start of the year.

Track Design

It was designed on 1 metre squares and to be easy to marshall. We ran this track at the second meet of the year, the one before we moved to North Ryde RSL.

would it be possible to retain the same track layout for at least 3 months?
i think this will give the racers an opportunity to fine tune their set-up and gearing.
also gives u an opportunity to benchmark your own performance or against other racers for a few weeks.

having a new track layout every friday means spending the 1st few rounds trying to fine tune your car & motor gearing. by the time u get it right, it's probably the last round for the night ... if u're lucky Laughing

just a suggestion.

Caneye, if there were a majority of people who wanted this done it would probably be considered.

But generally speaking the people who set up the track get to choose what they want to do. Unfortunately there are usually only a few people who spend the time to set up the track, but if you turn up early and want to put in the effort im sure you would be welcome to design a track and lay it out.

You will also need to draw the track up so that you can set it back up the next time around.

Personally i prefer to run different tracks and lately i feel the tracks which have been put out have been of quite a good design with plenty of room for racing and not too tight and technical that you have to fight the track, as opposed to other racers.

Last Friday was a bit of an exception to the normal track and was probably a little smaller due to the fact that it got setup quite late Sad But it still had the usual variety for drivers to either choose to gear up for the straight or down for the tighter infield sections.

I really liked last Friday's layout. It was good to have something smaller and a little more technical. Apart from being a nice change, it was also a LOT quicker to lay out and pack away.

I would be happy to keep a layout over the course of, say, a series. Although the surface is different each night, and the layout is never EXACTLY the same, it is still a help not to be chasing gearing each night.

mike's idea is good - keeping the layout consistent at least for a series.
the surface is definitely different each race depending on rain, temperature.

we can ask around to get some feedback.

i wish i could help out with setting up the track. but it takes me 1.5 hrs to make the trek from CBD to baulkham hills, to grab my gear, and then back to eastwood! i'm lucky if i reach the track by 7.

the next time i'm there, i'll have a look at the netball courts. we can use the court layout as "markers" to design the track?

most clubs with temp tracks (inc. CH & SMA) stick to the same layout for a considerable period.
it's quite fun and you get to gauge your time on a week to week basis.
and when u've done a major modification/change to your car (or whole car!), you would want to know if you're going faster or not.
the only way you can quantiy the improvements is via lap times.
the only way you can compare your lap times is to have a fixed (or almost identical) layout to benchmark your own times.

my $0.02.

yes i agree keep same layout.

instead of learning a new course every week, if the layout is the same for say 5 weeks, we will aim to go that 1/10th of a second lap faster every week. people may try different lines, driving tecniques and really fine tune thier driving style.

gives poeple something to strive for to improve thier personal bests.

also gives advantage to the regular club memebers who turn up regularly Wink Wink Wink

thats why its hard for ryde members to race at other clubs becasue they keep thier track for the whole series and drivers there have already fine tuned thier cars and know the track in their sleep. (this goes for both onroad and offroad)

Suggestion - we have 1 or 2 people responsible for setting (designing) the track layout - unfortunately not having a permanent track for on road and having 2 weeks between meeting people forget what the layout of past weeks was.

The difference with SMA & CH is that they run every week, making it easier to remember the layout - what we need is to have a team design a track layout - put it down on paper and have a couple of copies in a folder with the Secretary who could them pass the design out on the night of racing - this would ensure the same layout.

At present - someone designs a layout, then they might not turn up the next meeting (2 weeks) so another person tries to remember, that becomes to hard and another layout is designed. Unfortunately we cannot mark the courts for future reference so a drawing would be the next best thing, you would have to make sure you know the pipe lengths so that it is to scale - a little bit of homework would be needed.

To make this work we also need members to turn up every meeting to lay down the track ensuring it is the same for the 7 week series.

Come one guys - you obviously want the same layout - get a team together and draw up a layout and lets have it up for the next on road meeting which is week 2 of the new series and see if you all improve.

Same system could be introduced at Off Road - this would also go hand in hand with the new Best & Fairest Award for Ryde drivers (see May '07 newletter for more information) but you must be doing consistent laps/times over the meeting.

Keep the suggestions coming in -

just a suggestion for on-raod

how about a small dot stickers, like the ones teachers give out to children. have it green in color so it will blend in with the court.

this may not technically be allowed by the council, but a few 1cm green dots around the court would not even be noticed by anyone, and is totally removable.

We have now moved to Ryde Secondary College Basketball court, Forrest Road, Ryde.

This is a covered area, so if it rains we are ok - not like Brush Farm. Support our club racing for on road please.

We do need drivers to attend the race meeting which are held on the 1st, 3rd & 5th Friday evenings. Racing commencing at 7.30pm and concluding by 11.00pm.

Unfortunately you cannot park on the court, there is ample pit area but cars are in the street. You will need power leads, light for table, the surface is good and has grip.

Come and have a race meeting with us, you will be very surprised and have an enjoyable evening.
